May 6, 2007: PR No. 11 - Nur Ali charges back to Texas with a 2nd place win! Print E-mail
Under cloudy Texas skies, Nur Ali raced to a 2nd place finish in front of a crowd of family, friends and sponsors who gathered to show their support.

After seven long months of a grueling travel schedule, culminating in the final A1GP World Cup of Motorsport race in London, England, Nur Ali was finally back at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, to race his #42 Star Formula Mazda Regional race car in the Sunburn Grand Prix.

Saturday dawned cloudy, with a light but steady drizzle.  The weekend’s format included both a qualifying and race on each day.  During the morning qualifying session, a total of 31 racecars took to the track from 4 different racing classes.  Even though it was later discovered that the tire vendor had failed to balance his tires after mounting them, Nur Ali still managed to qualify in 2nd position in his class.

In the afternoon as competition resumed, Nur took to the track with a vengeance and claimed the lead before the end of the first lap.  Nur would not relinquish this position until well into lap 13, when fuel delivery problems caused a stalling problem in his Formula Mazda, crippling Nur’s chances of victory and pushing him back to a 5th place finish for Saturday’s race.

Arriving at the track on Sunday, Nur and the crew were ready to stand and deliver in order to get the car ready for the new racing day.  Having made adjustments, the technicians felt confident the car was ready to go.  Although skies were still overcast, the rain had abated.  During the morning’s qualifying session, Nur Ali managed to pound out some fast laps, qualifying in 2nd position.

Sunday afternoon saw darkly overcast skies, and although clouds appeared threatening, the rain held off for the duration of the race.  Throughout the 20 lap race, the battle was on between the first 3 Formula Mazda cars, making for an exciting race.  As the chequered flag flew, Nur took the 2nd place trophy.
