Under the scorching hot Oklahoma sun, Nur Ali and the Ali Motorsports pit crew saw a weekend of dramatic highs and lows as mechanical problems snatched almost certain victory from Nur Ali’s driving gloves.
The weekend began on a high note, when the Ali Motorsports team arrived at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit to shake down a newly installed engine in the #42 Budweiser and Tara Energy sponsored Formula Mazda Regional race car.
During Friday’s practice sessions, Nur Ali consistently set fast lap times, even while practicing on an old set of tires! The outlook could only look brighter for Saturday and Sunday’s race sessions.
As another sunny day dawned on Saturday, Nur Ali took to the track on a mission – and captured the top qualifying position. As race time rolled around and Nur Ali rolled into his pole position on the grid, Nur Ali was prepared to bring home the 1st place trophy. All went according to plan for the first three laps of the race, but suddenly, Nur began experiencing an engine misfire. As he lost position after position to the engine’s failing power, Nur Ali finally managed to limp into the pits with his ailing race car.
The Ali Motorsports pit crew rose to the task, replacing much of the electrical and ignition systems. The crew worked tirelessly, using all their knowledge, equipment, and the assistance of friends in the racing community to accomplish a great many repairs.
Back at the track early on Sunday morning, Nur Ali prepared himself for another top-rate qualifying run, but once again the car failed him, experiencing the engine misfire yet again. The Ali Motorsports pit crew jumped to the forefront again, running diagnostics and replacing the ignition unit.
At race time, Nur Ali was relegated to last place in the line up formation, as the result of his engine failure during qualifying. As the green flag dropped, Nur Ali’s brilliant red car shot forward, overtaking two cars on the spot and beginning a successful run to pick off each race car one at a time, until finally Nur Ali was poised to overtake the final car and go from last place to first! As he rounded a corner and bounced over one of the kerbs, a wheel locked, causing a tire to flat spot all the way to the cords, ending Nur Ali’s racing for the day.
Nur Ali and the Ali Motorsports team will be at Texas Motor Speedway on September 1-2, 2007. Please join us there to experience all the excitement of motorsport racing, or check back at www.alimotorsports.com for more news and information.
